Hip Hop Dance Classes

Our hip hop dance lessons provide energetic and engaging routines featuring the latest hip hop moves. Each class begins with a warm-up that builds stamina while improving strength and flexibility. Our hip hop program helps students establish solid dance fundamentals, focusing on core hip-hop movements and across-the-floor exercises. Learning the basics of hip hop alongside other dance styles like ballet helps beginners develop rhythm, coordination, and posture. Every session introduces fresh combinations and routines set to current clean music, incorporating fun props and creative activities for younger dancers. We recommend clearing space at home for practice sessions – use your phone to record yourself and track your improvement. Regular practice time is key to developing your skills. Whether you’ve danced before or you’re completely new to movement, our classes accommodate all skill levels so you can find the right fit. We match students with classes that align with their interests and goals, offering various hip hop styles to choose from. As your abilities grow, the movements become more challenging to keep pace with your development. We welcome both first-time hip hop dancers and those with previous experience. Keep an eye on our schedule for new classes and events. Some sessions target young children or beginners taking their first independent steps into dance. Ballet often serves as an excellent foundation class, helping with rhythm, coordination, and posture while supporting your hip hop development.

Please see the calendar on our home page or contact us at 561-317-5738 to learn the schedule.

Dancers should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.

Classes cost $20 each and must be paid in advance for the session (usually 10 classes) following the free trial.

Introduction and History

Hip hop dance has a vibrant and influential history that began in the 1970s on the streets of New York City. What started as a creative outlet for street dancers quickly grew into a powerful movement, bringing people together in parks, clubs, and public spaces to share their passion for rhythm and movement. The early days of hip hop dance were marked by the development of unique elements like breaking, popping, and locking—styles that remain at the core of hip hop dance classes and competitions today.

As hip hop dance evolved, it became much more than just a fun way to move; it became a strong cultural force and an important addition to the world of dance. Students from all backgrounds found a sense of belonging and identity through the grooves and combinations that define hip hop. The influence of talented instructors and choreographers helped shape the discipline, offering structured training and opportunities to perform both on stage and in the studio.

Today, hip hop dance is a global phenomenon, with classes, competitions, and online classes available to dancers of all levels. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance your technique, hip hop dance offers a fun and challenging way to stay active, build strength, and express yourself. Music and Sub-Genres

The heartbeat of hip hop dance is its music—a driving force that brings energy, creativity, and excitement to every class and performance. Hip hop music is known for its strong beats, infectious rhythms, and innovative use of sampling, scratching, and rapping. These elements create the perfect foundation for dancers to explore a wide range of moves and techniques.

Within the world of hip hop, there are several sub-genres that each bring their own unique style to the dance floor. Breaking, popping, and locking are just a few of the techniques that have shaped the way people move and perform in hip hop dance classes and competitions. Over the years, new styles like street jazz and hip hop fusion have emerged, offering even more ways for dancers to express themselves and challenge their skills.

Choreographers and instructors play an important role in designing routines that showcase the versatility and technique of hip hop dance. Whether in the studio or through online classes, they use music to inspire students and help them master everything from basic grooves to advanced combinations. The popularity of hip hop music and its many sub-genres has only increased with the rise of online classes and social media, making it easier than ever for people to discover and join the hip hop dance community.

With its rich history, diverse sounds, and endless opportunities for creativity, hip hop music remains a vital part of the dance experience. It continues to inspire dancers, fuel competitions, and bring people together through the universal language of rhythm and movement.
